Mumia Audio on C-Note Hunger Strike

“Mumia Audio on C-Note Hunger Strike,” is a 15:21, audio interview of Mumia Abu Jamal regarding C-Note’s “Hunger Striking for True Freedom,” Sept. 21 — Oct. 4, 2025. 

It was the first U.S. prisoner hunger strike to challenge a state’s parole board system. The name was inspired by the 2021 political musical “Hunger Striking for True Freedom,” by artivist Min. King X Pyeface; while the date was inspired by the September 21, 1971, hunger strike at the Kansas State Prison Farm, Lansing, Kansas.

Donald “C-Note” Hooker is a carceral justice artist. His works are in the Wikipedia articles, “Prison Art,” and “Black August (commemoration).” His 2018, “Today We Are Sisters,” was the first artwork to raise awareness and to demand reparations for the forced sterilization of California women prisoners. It inspired others towards advocacy and led to the enactment of a $7.5M reparations bill.
